Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, one of Pakistan’s most influential and versatile creative forces, has held a career spanning over two decades across film, television, and theatre. A director, actor, producer, and screenwriter, he first rose to prominence with the hit sitcom Shashlick and went on to shape some of the country’s most iconic television dramas, including Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat. His work is widely recognized for its artistic depth and exploration of complex social themes, culminating in his critically acclaimed film Manto, where his portrayal of the legendary writer Saadat Hasan Manto earned international praise and multiple awards.
Beyond his individual achievements, Sarmad has played a pivotal role in revitalizing Pakistani cinema. Through his production house, Khoosat Films, he has championed groundbreaking projects such as Zindagi Tamasha and Joyland, both of which have received global recognition at prestigious festivals including Cannes and Busan. His contributions extend into academia and cultural advocacy: he actively teaches, mentors emerging talent, and represents Pakistan at international forums. Honored with the Pride of Performance Award in 2016, Sarmad continues to use storytelling as a powerful medium to challenge norms, inspire dialogue, and elevate Pakistani arts on the global stage.
